Fraglia Vela Malcesine Optimist team

When in the 90s, the previous Presidente Gianni Testa decided to create the competitive activity, it all started with the Optimist team, the one for the youngest, from 7 to 15 year-old.

After the sailing school if you want to undertake this sport in a more serious and continuous way, you can go directly to the Optimist Team. The team is divided into two groups: the little ones who have just arrived from the sailing school enter the Gruppo Vela Malcesine, and do a pre-competitive activity. When they mature the age, the ability and the desire to race, they move on to the agonistic team.

The Optimist class is the most common class for young sailors. Only in Italy there are more than 1500 members of the class.

Fraglia Optimist Team has been competitive nationally and internationally for many years, and has made us proud with numerous results.

In 2015 our Gaia Bergonzini won the female silver medal at the World Championship in Dziwnow (POL) as well as the Italian Championship in Dervio. The following year she then became European Champion in Crotone.
